Green Labs

Our Green Labs program works to embed sustainability into the heart of scientific research and education. We launched a university-wide effort that brought together stakeholders from Environmental Health & Safety, Recycling Services, Waste Management, lab managers, and students to rethink lab practices from the ground up. Through this collaboration, we implemented lab plastics recycling in the Science Center, reopened the ReUse Room to give materials a second life, and revised undergraduate lab manuals to reduce reliance on single-use plastics and hazardous chemicals. These changes are now embedded in multiple undergraduate biology and chemistry courses—creating lasting, systemic improvements in how science is taught and practiced.
